1999 and Previous 4L60/4L60E (700R4). The reverse input clutch piston assembly on the 4L60 and the 4L60E utilize an outer lip as well as an inner hub lip seal. This two piece is designed to protect the outer seal and the inner seal from damage during assembly of the reverse input clutch piston into the drum assembly. It has been determined that damage to the seals could occur, if the piston seals are installed using a typical wire seal installer. Place the outside seal protector into the drum assembly. Then place the smaller cone seal protector over the shaft inside the reverse input clutch piston. At this time lubricate the seals, place the piston into the drum assembly and push into place while rotating the piston.
