Kent-Moore DT-50487 Gauge Block, Pinion Setting
The pinion to ring gear relationship is crucial for axle performance and service life. This placement is achieved by a shim between the pinion and the inner bearing. DT-50487 is used with components from J-34925 Pinion Shim Selection Kit and DT-50488 Arbor Support to determine the required pinion shim. DT-50487 is assembled through the pinion bearings in the pinion bore, and tightened to a specific rotating preload. The plunger from J-21777-1 Arbor contacts DT-50487, and J-8001-3 Dial Indicator is placed onto J-21777-1. Once the assembly is zeroed, the plunger is removed from DT-50487 to indicate the required shim. Using an incorrect shim will affect axle performance, and shorten its service life.
