GM-52090 is a lifting bar that is used with the brass jaws and two long bolts from a previously essential inline tool (GM-45053). It allows controlled and safe lifting of the rotating clutch, gear, and shaft shell assembly in or out of the transmission case and placement on the workbench for disassembly and service. 

The brass jaws clamp onto the input shaft and lift the entire shell and shaft assembly. The assembly has planetary gear sets and several clutch assemblies and weighs 76 lbs. GM‑52090 has a lifting eye built in so an engine floor crane can be used to lift the complete assembly.
