Applications: 2016 and later Silverado and Sierra with 6.6L Diesel engines.

GM-52074 removes carbon buildup in the glow plug bore, which can interfere with or damage the glow plug tip during replacement. Once the grease is applied to the reamer to catch any carbon removed, GM-52074 pilots into the glow plug bore, and the reamer end passes into the head's combustion chamber. The hex on GM-52074 is turned with a ratchet to remove any carbon build-up, which remains in the grease at the end of GM-52074, and is to be removed from the engine.

As the engine runs during regular operation, soot builds up between the outside and inside of the glow plug hole. Once a glow plug is removed, the soot collected in the bore must be removed. If soot is not removed before installing a new glow plug, it could “sideload” the new glow plug and cause premature failure.

The GM-52074 Glow Plug Bore Reamer is the recommended tool for cleaning the glow plug holes on the 1.6L, 3.0L, and 6.6L diesel engines.

Failure to use GM-52074 may result in damage to the glow plug.
