Malibu and ATS, 2014 Regal Timing Chain Tensioner Tool

Accessing the timing chain tensioner on the Malibu, ATS, and 2014 Regal models requires precision due to the limited space. The tensioner is located behind a small plate on the front cover. The tension must first be relieved to service the camshaft, actuator, and timing chain.

  1. Remove the Cover Plate: Remove the cover plate to expose the tensioner.
  2. Engage the Tensioner Arm: Use the GM-50837 tool to engage the tensioner arm. This tool moves the arm forward, disengaging the ratchet mechanism.
  3. Retract the Tensioner Plunger: Use a screwdriver with the disengaged ratchet mechanism to retract the tensioner plunger.
  4. Lock the Tensioner Arm: Once retracted, the GM-50837 tool moves the arm back and is inserted further to engage the locking hole in the tensioner body.

Due to restricted access, the EN-50837 tool's handle is designed at a 90-degree angle, making it easier to maneuver in tight spaces.
