General Motors GM‑48383 Camshaft Retaining Tool Set 

Applications: High Feature V6 Engines (2.8L, 3.0L, 3.6L)

The GM‑48383 Camshaft Retaining Tool Set is engineered for precise camshaft holding and alignment during timing service on GM High Feature V6 engines. Proper camshaft retention is critical when setting timing—especially once the inner timing chain is installed. This tool set ensures both camshafts on each cylinder head remain locked at Top Dead Center (TDC), preventing rotation caused by spring pressure and eliminating the risk of mis‑timing the engine.

This tool set is designed for 2007–current High Feature V6 engines. For 2006 and older, use GM‑46105.

During timing procedures, the left‑side camshafts are under spring pressure and can rotate unexpectedly, leading to incorrect timing and potential engine damage. The EN‑48383 tool set prevents this by securely holding each camshaft in place:

• GM‑48383‑1 holds the left‑head camshafts during initial timing
• When the engine is rotated to the second timing position:
• GM‑48383‑2 holds the left‑head cams
• GM‑48383‑3 holds the right‑head cams

Both GM‑48383‑1 and GM‑48383‑2 feature slotted designs to fit over the SIDI drive portion of the camshaft for future applications.

Failure to use GM‑48383 during timing procedures can result in incorrect timing and severe engine damage.
