Verify your application with the information provided:

  • GM-48313 or ST-161 Timing Chain Retention Tool: It works on 2009 and prior models for Bank 1 and Bank 2-cylinder heads. For 2010 and later models, it works only on Bank 2 (Left Cylinder Head).
  • GM-49982 or ST-250 Timing Chain Retention Tool: This tool works on 2010 and later models for Bank 1 (Right Cylinder Head) only.

A rib has been added near the timing chain, blocking access for the currently essential GM-48313 Timing Chain Retainer. The GM-49982 fits around the rib when retaining the chain.

Once the camshaft covers are removed, tools GM-48383 or ST-118 are installed to retain the camshafts in their proper orientation. The timing chain and its position relative to the camshaft position actuators are marked to ensure correct reassembly. GM-48313 or ST-161 is then installed, allowing for the removal of the camshaft actuators while maintaining proper camshaft position timing.
