This tool is required to help keep the lower timing gear tensioner stationary while the cylinder head is removed from the I4, I5, I6 engines. If this tool is not used it will cause the lower timing gear tensioner to extend necessitating the need to disassemble the lower part of the engine which increases the labor time by 12.8 hours for cylinder head repair.

Carefully follow the repair instructions outlined in Bulletin 06-06-01-17C to properly use the Lower Timing Gear Tensioner Holding Tool (EN-48464). Failure to properly insert and secure the holding tool as instructed in the bulletin may result in a ratchet out movement of the timing chain tensioner and the need to perform additional repair steps not covered by the warranty repair time.
